How to send any file, completely free
From file picker to delivered, in under 60 seconds.
What you need
The file you want to send, and a way to message the receiver. Both of you need a modern browser open at the same time. No account, no app, no install. Best browsers: Chrome (recommended), Edge, Firefox, Safari.
Part 1: Sending a file
Step 1: Go to TransferFiles.net and pick your file
Open transferfiles.net. The Send a File tab is selected by default. Tap or click the large drop zone. Choose your file. You can also drag and drop on a computer. Nothing uploads yet.
Step 2: Copy the link and send it
After choosing, you instantly see a link and a short code. Tap Copy Link. Paste and send it to the receiver via WhatsApp, iMessage, email, Slack, or any app. Do not close your tab.
Step 3: Keep your tab open
You will see a "Waiting for the receiver to connect" spinner. Keep your screen on. Do not close the tab. When the receiver connects, the transfer starts automatically.
Step 4: Watch and wait
A large percentage counter and speed display show progress. Stay online until it reaches 100%. Then you will see a confirmation.
Part 2: Receiving a file
Step 1: Open the link
Click the link the sender shared. It opens TransferFiles.net and switches to Receive a File with the code already filled in.
Step 2: Tap "Connect and Receive File"
Tap the button. The sender must have their tab open at this moment. If you see an error, ask the sender to check their tab is still open and try again.
Step 3: Keep your tab open until 100%
A progress counter shows the transfer. Do not close your tab or let your device sleep until it reaches 100%.
Step 4: Find your file
When complete, the file is automatically saved to your Downloads folder. On iPhone or Android, check your browser's download manager or the Files app.
Tips for large files (over 5 GB)
- Use Chrome or Edge on a computer for very large files. These browsers can stream directly to disk.
- Use Wi-Fi rather than mobile data for large transfers.
- Set your screen timeout to at least 30 minutes for the duration of the transfer.
- Speed is capped by the sender's upload speed. A 5 GB file at 50 Mbps upload takes about 13 minutes.
Troubleshooting
Could not reach the sender
The sender's tab was closed or their device slept. Ask them to re-open TransferFiles.net, pick the file again, and share a new link.
The connection failed
Some strict office or university networks block peer-to-peer connections. Try using a mobile hotspot on either device. If that does not work, contact us.
